I've only heard of Fire Mountain Gems too, although I do shop at a beadaholique on ebay, don't know if its the same people.. Great article!
thanks for the info on where to get some beads. I did not know about fire mountain. you did a great job, keep it up.
I'm into beads...so this is great. Thanks!
Here's a way to save even more money at Fire Mountain: put items you want from Fire Mtn in one of their "favorites" lists and then check that box that says the box is public. Then go to jetbeads.com and follow the instructions. Jason at Jetbeads is like a middleman but in a good way. He'll place the order at Fire Mtn and get you the next highest one or two discount levels. I've saved $50 on two orders by going through jetbeads.com. This is all done w/ Fire Mountain's approval. I love it!!!
Hi b4murry! Saw your follow, and like to say thank you! Oh, you have opened Pandoara's box when I seen this! I have not shopped at the places you've mentioned, but a strange thing, I beaded before I knew it was getting popular! Right now a lot of my things are packed up as I'm awaiting my house to be fixed. But, I've only bought once online when I couldn't find the right yellow seed bead! Two colors both wrong LOL! Anyway, the way I began my collection was rather odd I guess. But I lived in Michigan at the time, and went to yard sales, well any sales I could find and for like a quarter I bought necklaces, bracelets.. shapes, colors nothing matter except they be GLASS! I've ended up with about (to start) 5 of those plastic boxes that keep little things separated, to the bigger boxes to keep bunches of bigger beads boxed/together. Now I have, with those about 4 boxes of beads, and what is funny, every time a store thinks it's a passing fad, they start marking things down and I snagged them up, got them as gifts, and then I got cataracts! I thought, when age caught up to me, that would be my thing I would make more things with beads than I had! From the little beaded purses to jewelry! FINALLY after the past 6-7 years of being completely blind I have my eyesight back! And at the right time two friends and I are having a round robin (nobody else wanted to join in) so, we're just going to send something to each other that is handmade. So I'm making them each bracelets. What's great, is I already have everything, and wouldn't you know it, the one I was making for my "colorful" friend, I SAW IT AT JCPENNY!!! My jaw dropped! lol! I'm still going to make it as I don't think she shops there and she'll know I made it anyway. My other friends husband just passed away so she's very sad, so I can't wait to get working on her blue and purple one! Ok, well, I could go on and on about beading lol! I really wish I knew where all my things were right now with my house being fixed, because my other friend actually gave me a "buck-hub-list" LOL! He said these were things I needed to do hubs on! So, looks like this is another nudge! :) Great hubs, love those pinks, I have some red ones similar I think will make a good bracelet with dangle beads. A good/bad thing about glass! Love the sound/feel, but have to be careful of chips or breaks. I LOVE my Antique beads a lot, makes me miss the north with their whole weekend sales! Thanks for the follow, will check out more and return as well as vote up & awesome!
I use Art Beads for ordering beads online most of the time. I have used Fire Mountain and Beadaholique, too, and have been pretty pleased with both. I'll have to check out the other sites. Thanks!
:) Thanks.. I was a seller (antiques) on eBay until they kept changing I only do emergency selling there now, no buying. But My eyes stay peeled for sales on glass beads at second hand stores/yard sales.. I took a break too, but I figure I'm going to be too old to get out and look one day :) then I'll be stocked up! I like cross stitch too, but.. like you say, I think we need a break from things! I keep them cos I'll go back at some point! :)
ArtBeads can be pricy when you're buying individual items. They have pretty good prices for beads by the gram: delicas, Tohos, etc.
Interesting fact silver made in Thailand is only made in villages outside of the main cities by Hilltribe families. Most patterns have been in there family for many years and can only be made by large order. There are no stores or one central place to purchase Hilltribe silver in variety other than from the large wholesale shops in the city. Mondays and Fridays are the days families will bring their goods to the main shops for sale and to pick up new orders. A trip to a silver village is a real eye opener to see how families work together to make beautiful silver pieces of art. All Handmade.

I have only heard of Fire Mountain Gems, and that's because I used to work at the FMG warehouse! I am so excited to see that you listed them first. FMG really is a great company, and they are awesome to work for. All the beads and findings I own come from them.
