Annie is curious. She is a teenager mostly unaware of her good looks, with long brown hair and green eyes, slim and athletic; with the glow of youth.

She is concerned with fitting in and making the volleyball team. She chats and texts, and like most teenagers she is attached to her computer.

She starts chatting online with a teenage boy from California named Charlie. He is smart, funny, helpful, and also plays volleyball.

She sends him her picture, he calls her gorgeous. Annie feels special. She even tells her parents about Charlie. They are not alarmed he is a teenage boy and he lives far away. He tells her about his family, she tells him about hers.

Charlie eventually sends Annie a picture of himself. Annie is attracted to Charlie who is blonde and handsome. She flirts...

But he confesses he is not in High School, he is in college. Annie is upset Charlie lied but she forgives him.

She enjoys talking to him and they even talk on the phone at night their conversations becoming more intimate and sexual.

He finally admits he is actually 25 and a “graduate student”.

Annie is shocked but again forgives him because he is her friend. He suggests they meet at a mall near her.

She agrees excited and nervous. They meet but Charlie is not a 25 year old. He looks as if he is nearing 40.

Annie is confused and upset, she cries. But Charlie is persuasive, “Can’t they at least talk, as friends”. They have ice cream and talk.

She is a nice thoughtful girl, she even voices her concerns about her older brother away at college to Charlie. She doesnt want him in with the wrong crowd.

Charlie tells her how special she is, how mature.

She agrees to leave the mall with him and gets in his car, clicks her seat belt in place. Warning Bells may go off in her head but she ignores them.

They go to his hotel room. I won’t explain what happens, but you can imagine…

Annie doesn’t tell anyone what happened until prodded by her best friend. But she defends the relationship and her actions because Charlie cares about her.

Annie’s friend does the bravest thing possible, yet sadly probably not what most teenagers would do. She tells an adult. Annie is horrified and feels betrayed.

Soon the school, her parents, and the FBI are involved. She is examined at the hospital and turns over her underwear she wore that day hidden in her closet to the FBI.

Her parents are shocked, horrified, and angry at this predator. How could they not know?

The FBI wants Annie’s help, but Annie is not sure… She cares about Charlie, she went with him willingly, and her parents don’t understand.

Annie’s dad is angry he wants to get his hands on this guy. He stands at a gun counter contemplating his options. He feels helpless.

But he is disappointed in his daughter why did she lie, why did she go with him, why is she protecting him, didn’t she scream for help?

He discovers some of the conversations between Charlie and Annie; he is shocked by the graphic language used by his daughter.

Annie's mom wants to catch the predator, she aches for her daughter. But she is more concerned with Annie’s well-being than catching “Charlie”.

She is troubled by her husband’s obsession.

Annie is in turmoil. She is defensive, angry, and sad refusing to admit she was a victim of a predator.

Annie's psychiartrist, Played perfectly by Viola Davis, listens but doesn’t judge. Undoubtedly she has seen trauma this before.

The story takes some twists and turns, and doesn’t wrap up neatly… Such is real life.

Great review! Sounds like an interesting movie. Have you ever seen "Hard Candy"? It stars Ellen Page ("Juno") and it is quite a twisted movie! I highly recommend it! Voting Up and Useful.
