"About three things I was absolutely positive.
First , Edward was a vampire. Second , there was a part of him - and I didn’t know how potent that part might be - that thirsted for my blood. And third , I was unconditionally and irrevocably in love with him".- Bella Swan from Twilight .
This is a quote from the Book Twilight by Stephenie Meyer.
Meyer is the author of a hugely popular book series focusing on the romance between a mortal girl and a vampire.
Breaking Dawn Sneak Peek
Story of Twilight
Stephenie Meyer describes how Twilight began in 2003 with a vivid dream. The dream inspired her to begin writing the story in her head.
So began the birth of Twilight which led to the wildly popular four book series known as The Twilight Saga.
Meyer's Dream:
“Two people were having an intense conversation in a meadow in the woods. One of these people was just your average girl. The other person was fantastically beautiful, sparkly, and a vampire.
They were discussing the difficulties inherent in the facts that they were falling in love with each other.
And the vampire was particularly attracted to the scent of her blood, and was having a difficult time restraining himself from killing her immediately”.-Stephenie Meyer
In summary, the Twilight story begins as Bella Swan, a beautiful but unassuming teenager, moves to a small town near Seattle called Forks.
This town is the rainiest town in America. She meets Edward Cullen, a mysterious and handsome student at her high school who turns out to be a vampire and lives with his clan in a mansion.
As the romance between Bella and Edward blossom, they face obstacles such as the physical limitations of being in a mortal-vampire relationship.
They also face objections from their families, and threats from other unfriendly vampires. Vampires not as accepting as the Cullens.
Conflict also brews between Bella’s handsome friend Jacob Black from the Indian reservation who is not a fan of the Cullen’s.
Jacob has some secrets of his own. He too falls in love with Bella.

Edward wishes to terminate the pregnancy, due to the fact that the unborn child is slowly killing Bella while it grows. Bella refuses, determined give birth to their baby. While in labor, Edward is forced to save Bella's life by injecting vampire venom straight into her heart, changing her into a vampire.
In the very least one is guaranteed not to be bored with this story.
Vampire Legends
History of the vampire legend began in ancient Persia, where a vase was discovered depicting a man struggling with a huge creature which is trying to suck his blood.
Zoom forward to present day and vampire mythology is still part of our pop culture, even if its just for entertainment.
The popularity of vampires allows authors like Stephenie Meyer to become a household name, and sell millions of books worldwide.
Dr. Cullen
Stephenie Meyer reenergized the Vampire legend as only a teenage love story can do. The Twilight Saga consists of four books:
- TWILIGHT (2005)
- NEW MOON (2006)
- ECLIPSE (2007)
- BREAKING DAWN (2008)
Twilight mania slowly spread to teens and young adults; young people who may have never read for pleasure before devoured the 800 page books. Soon the books turned into hit movies. Teen girls and other fans flocked to the movies. A spot in the cast virtually guaranteed stardom for the actors. Kristen Stewart was cast as “Bella”, and Robert Pattinson as “Edward”.
Apparently Robert Pattinson had instant chemistry with Kristen Stewart during their first screen test before the first Twilight movie began. The crush continued with his 'Twilight' co-star during filming of the movie; but the actress had a boyfriend at the time. Kristen soon became single, and rumors surfaced that Rob and Kristen were a couple. The actors have finally admitted they are dating, which makes those angst ridded make out scenes in Twilight even more real.
Teen moviegoers envy Bella Swan. Bella is simply unable to resist Edward, and he is unable to resist her despite the danger being with a human poses. Bella goes from a humdrum boring life, to a life of adventure, danger, and passion. The stories have werewolves, Vampires, New Borns, Epic battles… Eternal life, impossible ghostly beauty…
The phenomenon has even influenced adults. The name “Cullen” as in Edward Cullen has become a popular baby name.

Vampires in Hollywood
Hollywood Movies and books give conflicting versions of these creatures. I have read all the books in the Twilight series. I have seen the movie Interview with a Vampire, as well as other Vampire movies. So depending on which movie you see or book you read these rules could apply to Vampires:
- You can kill a vampire with a stake through the heart.
- Vampires lust after and drink human blood.
- They have inhuman strength.
- Vampires are repelled by garlic.
- You can’t see a Vampire in a mirror.
- Vampires are burned by crosses and holy water
- Vampires can’t go out in sunlight.
- Vampires sleep in Coffins.
Vampires aren’t real. But why do they stay so popular in our culture? The romance in a vampire story attracts us. Eternal life and living forever through the centuries is an interesting idea. Vampires have always been an object of fascination. They bring images of Blood, lust, romance, death, danger, and adventure. They are the subject of popular movies such as:
- Dracula (1992): This version of Dracula is closely based on Bram Stoker's classic novel of the same name. A young lawyer (Jonathan Harker) is assigned to gray village in Eastern Europe. He is captured and imprisoned by the undead vampire Dracula.
- Interview with a Vampire (1994): Based on the book by Anne Rice; A vampire tells his life story of love, betrayal, loneliness, and hunger.
- Lost Boys (1987): A mother and her two sons move to a small coastal town in California. The town is plagued by bikers and some mysterious deaths, and Vampires.
Popular TV shows feature vampires such as:
HBO's "True Blood" is an adult show. The show is about Japanese scientists who have engineered synthetic blood to meet vampires nutritional needs so they no longer need to pray on humans. The vampires are now allowed to integrate among society. However some religous leaders, the goverment, and citizens have their doubts...
The WB network's "Vampire Diaries" is geared toward young adults. It is the story of two vampire brothers obsessed with the same girl, and battling to control the fate of an entire town. ,The human teenage girl looks exactly like the beautiful but ruthless vampire the brothers knew and loved in 1864.
TRUE BLOOD TRAILER
Despite the fact that the Twilight movies are fantasy the blind devotion of Bella is somewhat alarming. Bella totally devotes her life to Edward. This is not exactly healthy behavior to emulate. Bella is a young teenager who sacrifices everything for the Boy/Vampire; friends, family & being human. Teenage girls should enjoy the movie but not follow Bella’s example.
That being said, I will happily buy a ticket for the Breaking Dawn movie coming in November. Fans are eager to see newcomer Mackenzie Foy as Bella & Edward’s child Renesmee Cullen, the half human half vampire daughter of Bella & Edward.
It is a guilty pleasure I will enjoy; like reading a gossip magazine.

I am 29 and I obsess over Twilight like a 14 year old!!
I think the reason is that Edward is the perfect man, I mean lets face it, he's HOT, so well mannered, deeply in love with Bella, and uh, he's a sexy dark sparkling vampire. My 30th b-day is in November, and this movie will be the BEST b-day present ever!!
